A cargo bike is a two-or-more-wheeled vehicle designed to carry heavy loads —goods, children, tools— replacing the car for urban trips. There are several types: biporteur (front box), longtail (extended rear), tricycle (three wheels, maximum stability) and quadricycle (four wheels, large capacity). At biciscargo.es, we distribute biporteur and tricycle models from Cycles du Midi and Wed Cargo, manufactured in France with reinforced frames.
The weight depends on the model and configuration. Our models range from 26 kg to 42 kg without battery. Electric assistance compensates for the weight of both the vehicle and the cargo, so when riding with the motor it doesn't feel heavier than a conventional bike. The lower weight of manual models also makes them easier to handle when stationary.
Up to 200 kg of payload depending on the model, including the rider's weight. This means you can carry 2-3 children with their backpacks, boxes of goods, professional tools or the weekly shopping effortlessly. The reinforced aluminium box protects the cargo in all conditions.
No. Our electric cargo bikes comply with the EPAC (Electrically Power Assisted Cycle) standard: 250 W motor, assistance up to 25 km/h, mandatory pedalling. They require no registration, no driving licence and no compulsory insurance. They are legally classified as bicycles across the EU. We recommend voluntary third-party liability insurance, especially for professional use.
You can ride on cycle lanes, cycle paths and roads in urban and interurban areas, just like a conventional bike. Riding on the pavement is not permitted (except for small children). Cargo bikes have free access to all LEZ (Low Emission Zones) without restrictions —a decisive advantage for deliveries and urban travel.
Low Emission Zones are urban areas where access for polluting vehicles is restricted. In Spain, the Sustainable Mobility Law requires municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants to implement 149 ZBE in total. Cities such as Madrid Central, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and Bilbao already have active LEZ. Across Europe, cities like Paris, London and Berlin also operate LEZ. Cargo bikes —electric or manual— are exempt from all restrictions: they can drive, park and deliver in any LEZ at any time. For urban logistics professionals, it's the most efficient and cost-effective last-mile solution.
Yes, depending on your region. In Spain, the Madrid MUEVE Plan offers up to 600 € in grants for electric cargo bikes. Galicia offers subsidies up to 500 € through its sustainable mobility programmes. Other regions publish occasional grants. There is no general national subsidy at this time. From biciscargo.es, we advise you to identify and apply for available grants in your area.
The standard 540 Wh battery offers a real-world range of 60-80 km in urban use with cargo. The 720 Wh (XL option) battery extends range to 100+ km. Range varies depending on the weight carried, terrain (flat vs hills), temperature and the selected assistance level. The battery is removable and charges in 4-5 hours with a standard charger.
Our range goes from 2,390 € for the DIY Kit Cadre to 4,990 € for the fully equipped Cargo Électrique. The Wed Cargo model starts at 3,490 € with electric assistance as an option (+1,100 €). All prices include VAT. Browse our full catalogue to compare models and configurations.
The biporteur has the cargo box in front of the rider, between the handlebar and front wheel —ideal for keeping an eye on cargo or children. The longtail extends the rear to seat passengers or cargo over the back axle. Our Cycles du Midi models are biporteurs and tricycles, a format that offers better visibility, balance when stationary and full cargo protection with the enclosed box.
Yes, they're an excellent alternative to a second car. Our Cargo Famille models can carry 2-3 children with padded benches, seat belts and a protective roll bar. The enclosed box protects from wind and rain, and can be fitted with a waterproof canopy. Many parents replace the school-run car with a cargo bike —faster, greener and cheaper.
